When picking this topic for our project I knew that childhood obesity was an issue in our nation but not until doing some research and reading a few articles did I realize the magnitude of the issue. Experts say that nearly one-third of American Children are either obese or overweight, nearly triple the number of obese children 30 years ago. Many obese children are ignorant to the serious effects of being overweight because it doesn't presently effect them. If they remain this way and don't act on changing to a healthier lifestyle, then serious diseases such as diabetes, high cholesterol, and high blood pressure can cripple them in adulthood and in serious cases even in late childhood. Children and adults who are obese were found to have a life-span five years shorter than that of a healthy individual. The problem of childhood obesity is finally beginning to be brought into the light especially thanks to President Obama's wife, Michelle, who has dedicated herself to creating a healthier generation of children and in turn leading to a healthier overall nation. With America spending nearly $150 billion a year treating obesity related health cases, the problem of obesity is effecting everyone paying their taxes as well. The problem of obesity will not be solved overnight but with Michelle Obama leading the way America will soon find itself moving back towards being a healthy nation.

I agree with this blog and the fact that more people should be aware of the obesity problem our country is facing. As of the last few years, obesity has started at a young age and has carried on into the individual's adult life. I feel like children and even adults should be better educated on obesity and how to live a healthier lifestyle. We as a nation should be taught what food choices would be better because some selections that seem unhealthy can be actually be very healthy. With better knowledge I feel like our country's obesity problem will decrease. I also like that in the blog they talk about how someone is dealing with the obesity issue; it shows that it has been brought to America's attention and that someone is trying to fix it.
